32-year-old man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after an 11-year-old girl was stabbed in London’s Leicester Square

Ioan Pintaru, a Romanian national with no fixed address, is also charged with possession of a bladed article.

According to the prosecutor, Mr Pintaru reportedly put the girl in a headlock and stabbed her eight times, resulting in serious injuries that required hospitalization.

Mr Pintaru was remanded in custody by the Westminster Magistrates' Court and is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey in September. According to court proceedings, Mr. Pintaru reportedly approached two tourists - a girl and her mother - in Leicester Square around 11:30 BST.


The court was informed that the girl suffered injuries to her face, shoulder, neck, and wrist during the incident.


She is currently hospitalized and is expected to undergo plastic surgery due to her injuries, as per the court.
