Eyewitnesses recounted how police officers hurried to the scene in the bustling town center just as Saturday shoppers were starting their day.
Following an incident in Middleton town centre, a man was transported to the hospital after being 'slashed'. Two individuals, aged 20 and 26, have been arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with the attack on a 20-year-old man on Saturday August 10. The victim sustained a 'slashing injury' that necessitated stitches.
Around 30 minutes before police were called to reports of an assault at 8:52 am, a group of individuals started a confrontation outside a shop in Middleton town center. The two men who were detained are still in police custody.
One shop worker said she saw officers running through Middleton Shopping Centre at around 8.57am, just before she was due to open the business. "I saw them run past but I've no idea where they were running to," she said.
"I think there were five of them, going just past the shop. Five in full uniform, absolutely gunning past, they were going somewhere fast."
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers were called to reports of a serious assault in Middleton town centre this morning. A 20-year-old male victim was taken to hospital for injuries which are not life-threatening.
