Boy, 17, arrested in connection with horror stabbings in Southport

A major incident was declared after one person was killed and others were left injured

Merseyside Police have reported the arrest of a 17-year-old boy from the Banks area in connection with the stabbings in Southport. The teenager is currently in custody.

The violent incident on Hart Street resulted in at least one fatality and eight injuries. The wounded individuals were swiftly transported to various hospitals, including Alder Hey Children's Hospital, which has now declared a 'major incident'. This tragic event has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving residents in disbelief and mourning for the victims.

Eight people have been taken to the hospital by paramedics following the stabbings. Witnesses claim the attacks occurred during a Taylor Swift-themed dance and yoga class, turning what was supposed to be a fun and lighthearted event into a scene of horror and chaos. The atmosphere of the class quickly shifted from joy to fear as the violence unfolded.

Authorities have clarified that the incident is not believed to be linked to terrorism, providing some relief to a community already grappling with the aftermath of such a senseless act of violence. The investigation into the motives behind the stabbings is ongoing, with law enforcement working tirelessly to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy. The safety and well-being of the public remain a top priority as the community comes together to support one another during this difficult time.
