Huw Edwards has made an appearance in court facing charges related to the creation of indecent images of children.

The ex-BBC host is alleged to possess 37 inappropriate images of minors.

Huw Edwards, the former BBC presenter, is set to appear in court after being charged with producing indecent images of children. The 62-year-old is accused of committing these offenses between December 2020 and April 2022.

The seasoned broadcaster allegedly had 37 photos on WhatsApp, including six of the most severe category. The Metropolitan Police stated that he was arrested in November last year and formally charged on June 26.

As per the charges, Edwards is alleged to possess six category A images, 12 category B images, and 19 category C images on WhatsApp, which goes against sections 1(1)(a) and 6 of the Protection of Children Act 1978.

It is claimed that the images were distributed via WhatsApp. If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Before departing the BBC in April due to health reasons, Edwards was a prominent and well-paid news anchor for the network. Over his career, he hosted the BBC's News At Ten for two decades and led coverage of significant national events, including the announcement of Queen Elizabeth II's passing and the coverage of her funeral.

Previously, he was the highest-paid newsreader at the BBC, earning between £475,000 and £479,999 for the 2023/24 fiscal year, covering 160 presenting days, BBC One news specials, election specials, and other television programming, as per the corporation's most recent annual report.
