Chaos erupts in residential street as teenagers arrested after police spot 'suspected stolen bike'

Disorder and chaos unfolded on a residential street when two teenagers were arrested on Sunday night (August 4), leading to a confrontation between the police and angry locals emerging from their homes on Rosthwaite Close in Middleton.


The incident began when officers apprehended a suspected stolen motorbike, triggering the ensuing disturbance. Videos circulating on social media captured a significant police presence responding to the escalating situation.


Amidst the commotion, parents were heard shouting "he's 13, he's 13", while young children cried and screamed in the background as the officers intervened.

According to police, two teenagers were initially arrested on suspicion of affray, but they were later released. In a video circulating on social media, a young boy was observed lying on the ground. Following that, numerous officers were observed encouraging individuals to move away. An inquiry into the disturbance has been initiated. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 7pm on Sunday 4 August 2024, officers stopped a suspected stolen motorbike on Rosthwaite Close in Middleton. "While responding to this incident, a disturbance broke out and two teenagers were arrested on suspicion of affray. They were later de-arrested at the scene. No injuries were reported and enquiries are ongoing."
