Robber tied up victim with shoelaces then left DNA on table

A man has been sentenced to prison for restraining his victim using the victim's shoelaces and threatening them with a knife.

Having entered a property on Brierley Street in Bury on 28 May 2023, James Lamb confessed to restraining a man with a knife. According to Greater Manchester Police, the 30-year-old from Ashwood Avenue, Ramsbottom, left the man tied up and then stole his Mercedes car.

Lamb was sentenced to 13 years in prison for attempted robbery after appearing at Minshull Street Crown Court on Monday.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Lamb entered the property around 13:30 BST and waited for his victim in a shared area.

Upon the victim's return, Lamb, with a balaclava on, demanded money and drugs, which the victim did not possess or have any involvement with, according to the police.

Subsequently, he proceeded to tie up the man with shoelaces at knifepoint, searched his room, and then departed with the man's Mercedes.

Neighbours managed to free the man shortly before Lamb escaped in the vehicle.

Authorities confirmed Lamb's identity through a DNA match from a table he had touched in the property.

PC Ben Hubbard expressed relief that Lamb was now incarcerated.

He added, “This abhorrent act, targeting an individual in their own residence under what seems to be a case of mistaken identity, highlights Lamb's complete disregard for others." Follow Manchester Today on Facebook, and Instagram. Send your story ideas to Newsdesk@ManchesterToday.org.uk
